Learn to easily apply the power of data analytics to help lead workforce changes and improvements at your organization.

What is People Analytics?

As more organizations adopt human resource information systems, HR professionals have access to more systemized data than ever before. Companies need HR generalists and specialists who can look at this data and see beyond the numbers to interpret and translate these insights into actionable workforce solutions, and communicate its value to management. These workforce solutions include reducing the cost per hire, improving candidate selection, raising the employee retention rate, and improving employee engagement.

What you will learn

In this program you will work to become more comfortable presenting visual data and using insights to tell a story. You will also develop your skill set for foundational analytics, allowing you to find and apply data-driven insights to address HR-related problems. Upon completion of the Certificate in People Analytics, you will also be able to:

  • Define HR-related business problems through an inquiry-based approach
  • Explain common issues in adopting people analytics and propose solutions for these issues
  • Consider the ethical and legal concerns in implementing people analytics solutions
  • Communicate data insights through visualization tools such as data models

People analytics is a collaborative process, necessitating teamwork across departments to solve complex issues. This program’s course work will also develop your cross-functional competencies such as critical thinking, persuasion, negotiation and public speaking.

Program Benefits

Created in collaboration with and taught by people analytics practitioners, you will learn from leaders in the field how to probe data for statistical insights and make thought-out HR and talent management decisions. You will learn alongside a community of ambitious HR professionals, and graduate in 6-months, fast-tracking your career upgrade. The final capstone project allows you to apply what you have learned during the program towards a real-world HR issue.

Introducing Live Online Learning

To make our programming even more accessible, and to ensure the safety of students and instructors, we are now offering the in-class course components for professional programs completely online.

Delivery Formats

Part-Time – Blended

Courses combine in-person learning, on campus at York (or Live Online via Zoom during COVID-19) plus online learning. The live components are typically held at a scheduled day and time (e.g. Saturday and Sunday, 9am-4pm), on campus at York (or Live Online via Zoom during COVID-19) where students and instructors gather to participate in active learning activities, share their learnings in an interactive format and hear from guest speakers. The online delivery is asynchronous, which means that while students have set deadlines to complete their work each week, they do not have any required “live” components (e.g. class at 7pm on Tuesdays). There may be optional, live sessions, via Zoom, throughout the course for the instructor to provide additional coaching and support. These optional sessions may be recorded and shared with students who cannot attend.

Students can expect to write exams/quizzes, prepare assignments (individual and group), and participate in online discussions with their peers.

In addition to any live components, students should expect to dedicate approximately 8-10 hours of effort per course each week for readings, discussions boards, practice opportunities, assignments, and so on.

Part-Time – Intensive

In the intensive format, students will complete a full certificate in 11 weeks*. Courses will combine in-person classes at York University’s Keele campus, as well as Live Online and online learning.

There will be up to 6 hours of scheduled live instruction each week, where students will participate in instructor-led experiential learning activities and hear from guest speakers. The online delivery is asynchronous, meaning students are free to work at their own pace as long as they meet weekly course deadlines.

Course work includes writing exams/quizzes, completing assignments (individual and group), and participating in online discussions with their peers. Students should expect to dedicate approximately 10-15 hours per course each week for readings, discussion boards and assignments.

*Please note: courses that were typically completed in 8 weeks in a blended format will now be completed within 4 weeks in this intensive format.

Online Delivery

In Ontario, gatherings are restricted, and universities are offering limited classes in-person for the foreseeable future. We have been successfully delivering many of our courses online for years. So please know that you will not be compromising on your learning experience. When the situation changes and it is once again safe to offer face-to-face instruction, full-time programs will make the transition back into the classroom.

Until then, this program will be offered in an online asynchronous format or “live online” format depending on the term. The Live Online format offers students the structure and group interaction of a face-to-face experience without travelling to York’s campus. Our live online classrooms enable students to hear and interact with the instructor and other students like in a regular classroom. Course materials and assessments vary by course but students can expect online articles, videos, practice opportunities, discussion boards, etc. to help learn the content.
