What is Pre-Destination York?
Pre-Destination York is an 8-week program designed to help high school graduates with an IELTS score of 5.5 prepare for the Destination York program and eventually for study at York University. Graduating high school students who are eligible to join Pre-Destination York will be among a select group of high achievers who are motivated to improve their academic English skills.
What you will learn
The Pre-Destination York program focuses on the language skills required to succeed in York undergraduate courses. Your major goal during this program is to achieve an IELTS score of 6.0 to advance to the Destination York program. Guided by our expert instructors, you will improve your English and academic skills, and prepare for the academic expectations an undergraduate student meets.
You will learn how to improve important academic skill areas, such as:
- Listening to key ideas in lectures and presentations
- Note-taking
- Understanding and analyzing academic readings
You will also develop your writing skills to a level required for university-level research papers. More than that, you’ll develop key critical thinking, time management, and teamwork skills that will help you excel in a university environment.

You will have the opportunity to improve your spoken English with other students in the wider community during online and face-to-face Conversation Partner sessions.
