As the first month of 2019 comes to a swift end, the School of Continuing Studies excitedly welcomes students starting their studies with us this Winter term.
To better support our new students and facilitate their integration, we host an orientation session before the start of each term to ensure every student feels embraced and confident in their new space. On January 9th, the orientation session welcomed students pursuing their Post-Graduate Certificate in Accounting and Post-Graduate Certificate in Business Administration.
The venue was bustling with activity, munching, and chatter as over 200 students filled the room. Students enjoyed a quick game of Bingo which encouraged them to walk around and introduce themselves and meet other people. This proved to be effective in sparking new friendships and hopefully lifelong professional relationships. A campus tour was also provided for anyone interested in becoming familiar with our extensive campus- specifically the common areas, study spaces, and the various hot spots to find good food.
Business Administration and Accounting program manager, Todd Rich, was present at the event and was very thrilled to see many international students choosing to continue their studies in Canada. He stated that while both domestic and international students gained tips on how to be successful in class, at York, and in Canada, the international students received added value as they engaged in a presentation by York International. York International is an exceptional unit that provides several services and programs for international students to help them transition to life at York and in Canada. Students learned how to navigate the intricate visa process for obtaining work permits after completing their program.
Also at the event was the Director of Continuing Professional Education, Christine Brooks-Cappadocia, who reassured students in a brief presentation that they were taking the right steps in creating a future filled with limitless opportunities. She commented:
“The Post-Graduate Certificates are a great opportunity for recent university graduates – both domestic and international- to complement their degree studies with applied skills while developing the cross-functional professional competencies employers demand. It’s a real privilege to welcome so many students as they take this important step towards successfully launching their careers.”
Students left the orientation feeling more comfortable in their new environment and ready to upgrade their skills and seize the future. Good luck to all our students on your new journey!
A special kudos to the Business Administration and Accounting program team and York International for hosting this rewarding event. Thinking about launching your career in Accounting or Business Administration? We are happy to help!
