Doina Nugent is a passionate and student-focused educator and coach, with over 20 years of experience developing, coordinating, and instructing Academic and Professional Communications Programs in English, German, and French at York University, in Vancouver, Victoria, Germany, the UK, and Ireland.
Her continued focus is on creating engaging, inclusive learning environments to foster communication confidence, and on helping international students and Internationally Educated Professionals adapt to the North American academic, professional, and cultural environment.
At York University, Doina has taught a variety of courses, including Research Report Writing, Critical Thinking, Public Speaking, Teamwork, Case Study Methodologies and Analysis, and Intercultural Communication. In Europe, Doina developed and delivered in-house corporate English language training programs (Business Communication) and worked as and trained Translator/Simultaneous Interpreters. Doina also worked for many years as Assistant Editor in online publishing, and as official examiner in English, German, and French for both national and international examination boards (IELTS, iCELBAN, GCSE and Advanced (A) Levels (UK), and An Roinn Oideachais, Ireland).
Doina holds an Honors B.A. in English, German and French, and a Master’s degree, both from the National University of Ireland. Her teaching specializations (Higher Diploma in Education; Teaching licenses in Ireland, UK, and Germany) include Modern Language Teaching and Assessment Methodologies, Experiential Learning, Content Learning in Language (CLIL), and Personal and Social Development.
Doina has also had a lengthy and successful career in elite ultradistance running, triathlon and high-altitude climbing, winning 5 Intercontinental and 3 World Championships.
