Application/Admission Requirements 

Once you submit a complete application, you will receive a decision on your application within 3-5 business days. 

You need to have IELTS 4.0 or an equivalent score. Please check the equivalency here

The placement test is only available to Essential English students who do not have scores on file. Please click the link to apply for the program. After registration, students will receive an invitation to take the placement test about four weeks before the program start date. 

Our program is intended to be delivered in person to provide the best learning experience.  

Completion of level 6 for Essential English and all other pathway programs. Please see the Undergraduate Language Proficiency Requirements for more information.  

Yes, we have Integrated Year One program that provides you English language training support while you complete your first year of undergraduate studies at York University, allowing you academic credit while fulfilling English Language Proficiency requirement. 

If your studies are being funded by a sponsor, please ask your sponsor to email yueli@yorku.ca a sponsorship letter confirming that they will cover your tuition fees. Further instructions will be provided once a sponsorship email is received.

If you have not received your tuition receipt via email, you can fill out this form to request an updated fee receipt from us. Scroll down to the question, “Do you still need assistance?” and choose “Yes” to complete the form.

Medical Insurance  

Yes. It is mandatory for all international students to have health insurance coverage while studying within Canada. The insurance fee for international students in ELI program is automatically added to your invoice. This cost is in addition to any regular tuition fees. For details on the coverage offered by our insurance provider, Guard.Me, please visit https://www.guard.me/yorkscs.
