Enrolment Requirements

This is a direct registration program—simply enrol in the session of your choice to get started. Familiarity with instructional design through education or work experience is strongly recommended.

New to the field of instructional design or need a refresher? We offer registered students free, self-directed “prep” modules in foundational concepts and theories, designing assessments, and project management to support your learning.

Delivery Format

Part-Time– Online (Asynchronous)

  • Courses instruction and peer interactions are done online through our course management system, Moodle
  • Course delivery is asynchronous, which means that while students have set deadlines to complete their work each week, they do not have any required “live” components
  • There may be optional, live sessions, via Zoom, throughout the course for the instructor to provide additional coaching and support
  • Students should expect to dedicate approximately 8-10 hours of effort per course, each week, for readings, discussions boards, practice opportunities, and assignments

Part-Time – Blended

  • Courses combine in-person learning, on campus at York or Live Online via Zoom plus online learning.
  • The live components are held at a scheduled day and time on campus at York or Live Online via Zoom
  • The online delivery is asynchronous, which means that while students have set deadlines to complete their work each week, they do not have any required “live” components
  • There may be optional, live sessions, via Zoom, throughout the course for the instructor to provide additional coaching and support.
  • In addition to any live components, students should expect to dedicate approximately 8-10 hours of effort per course each week for readings, discussions boards, practice opportunities, and assignments

In today's fast-paced world, people gravitate towards practical learning experiences they can consume on the fly. Do you understand your end-users enough to deliver a binge-worthy experience? In this course, you will apply design thinking principles and work within common constraints to develop learning experiences that equip people with the relevant knowledge and skills they need to succeed. Get hands-on LXD experience defining meaningful objectives, conducting a needs analysis, and creating personas and a journey map that best captures your target audience.

CSLX1020 Creating a Proof of Concept: Developing a Learning Experience Prototype

Experience the LXD building process that transforms learning designs into learning experiences. In this course, you will learn to make the most of your development time by thinking like a designer: prototype ideas, pilot solutions, and optimize your stakeholder feedback. Gain experience developing proofs of concept that leverage technology solutions and curation strategies that leave your learners (and clients) wanting more.
