Mahjujah Islam, digital marketing grad, reflects on her time at the School of Continuing Studies

Mahjujah Islam enroled in the York University School of Continuing Studies Post-graduate Certificate in Digital and Content Marketing after completing her bachelor’s and realizing there was still so much she could learn about the dynamic and ever-evolving world of marketing.

During her education at the School, Mahjujah learned from marketing professionals, made new career connections with her peers and engaged in rewarding experiential projects working with real companies. Having graduated from the program recently, Mahjujah spoke with us about her experience at the School.

Could you describe your educational and career background prior to enrolling at York University’s School of Continuing Studies? 

I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in International Business Management focusing on Marketing. My career background included working in various marketing roles at my previous university, where I gained practical experience in traditional marketing techniques.

What inspired you to continue your education at this stage in your life? 

My desire for professional growth and adaptation to the ever-changing landscape of marketing. I understood that to advance my career and remain relevant, I needed to acquire specialized knowledge in digital marketing strategies and content creation. 

What drives your passion in your chosen career field? 

My passion stems from the dynamic nature of digital marketing and its ability to create meaningful connections with audiences. I am driven by the constant innovation and creativity required to engage consumers in an increasingly digital world. The opportunity to craft compelling narratives and utilize data-driven insights to drive business results fuels my enthusiasm for this field. 

Why did you choose York University’s School of Continuing Studies for your program? 

I chose York University’s School of Continuing Studies for its reputable programs and industry-relevant curriculum. The school’s emphasis on practical learning and its faculty composed of industry experts were key factors in my decision. The program’s flexible schedule also allowed me to balance my studies with my responsibilities.  

How would you describe your experience with the instructors at the School? 

My experience with the instructors at the School was exceptional. They brought a wealth of real-world experience and knowledge to the classroom, enriching our learning with practical insights and case studies. Their accessibility and willingness to support students inside and outside of class fostered a collaborative and engaging learning environment. 

What was it like to collaborate with your peers throughout the program? 

Collaborating with my peers was enriching and rewarding. We exchanged ideas, provided feedback, and worked together on projects that simulated real-world marketing scenarios. The diverse backgrounds and perspectives of my classmates enhanced the learning experience and broadened my understanding of digital marketing strategies. 

Can you share a moment from your time at the School that you are particularly proud of? 

One moment from my time at the School that I am particularly proud of was leading a team project where we developed a comprehensive digital marketing campaign for a local startup. Through our collective efforts, we delivered a strategy that exceeded the client’s expectations and generated measurable results, showcasing the skills and knowledge we had acquired during the program. 

What are your plans for your career or further education after graduating from your program? 

My plans for my career include applying the skills and insights gained to advance in my current role or pursue opportunities in digital marketing management. Additionally, I am considering further education or certifications to continue expanding my expertise in specialized areas of digital marketing such as SEO or social media marketing. 

Looking ahead, what are your long-term career goals, and how do you feel your program has prepared you to achieve them? 

My long-term career goals include assuming leadership roles in digital marketing strategy and innovation. I aim to significantly contribute to the field by leveraging emerging technologies and trends to drive business growth and enhance brand visibility. The comprehensive training and practical experience I gained in the program equipped me with the necessary tools and confidence to pursue these aspirations.
