Program Acceptance/Admission 

Requirements for acceptance vary by program. Prospective students must meet the specific criteria for their intended program of study, including the School’s Professional Programs English Proficiency Requirements. 

Yes. Each program has its own specific requirements for admission. Applicants should review the program’s requirements before applying.

International students must demonstrate English proficiency through approved tests as outlined here. Some students may be exempt from the English language proficiency requirements as specified here.  

Yes. You may still submit an application even if you currently do not meet the English proficiency requirement. You must indicate this in your application. You may be considered for conditional acceptance, which will require you to meet the English proficiency requirement by completing the English language class(es) before starting your program. 

Application/Enrollment 

The application submission deadline date is indicated on the website when you select “Apply” beside the program offering. 

  • For international students, it is typically two months prior to the program’s start, unless the offering has reached capacity.  
  • For domestic students, the application/enrollment deadline varies depending on program type (part-time or full-time). Please check the specific program page on the website for most-up-to-date information.   
  • If you completed the post-secondary education that meets the admission requirements for your program in Canada, please share your official transcript with us through MyCreds.  
    • You may submit your application and attach digital copies of your transcript(s). However, we will need to receive your official transcript(s) via MyCreds before the start of your program.  
  • If you completed the post-secondary education that meets the admission requirements of your program outside of Canada, you may provide a digital copy of your transcript with your application; however, we must receive your official hardcopy transcripts via mail from your University by the start of your program.  

Once you submit a complete application, you will receive a decision on your application within 7 business days.  

You can check your application status online by logging into the Student Portal and checking the status under “My Applications.” In general, applications may be reviewed within 5 – 6 weeks of submission. 

  • In Progress: Your application may not have been submitted. If you have already submitted your application and it is “In Progress” your application may have been returned to you for missing documents. Please check your email for details.
  • Submitted: Your application has been successfully submitted. It will be reviewed shortly, and the application will change to one of the following:
    • Under Review: You will receive a decision on your application at least one month prior to program start. We request your patience and ask you to wait for an email from us. Please note that you can check your application status online by logging into the Student Portal and checking the status under “My Applications.”  
    • Accepted: You will receive an offer letter advising you to make a tuition deposit to accept your offer. Please note that your offer letter is valid for 2 weeks.   
    • Denied: In general, admission decisions are made based on several factors including an applicant’s ability to be academically successful in the program, their ability to demonstrate a potential to thrive in the relevant career path upon completion of a program, and the composition of the cohort as a whole. We encourage you to apply for future programs and thank you for applying to York University’s School of Continuing Studies professional programs. 

Once the application is approved, you will receive the offer letter by email. Please read the email carefully and follow the instructions provided to accept the offer. 

If your studies are being funded by a sponsor, please ask your sponsor to email regscs@yorku.ca a sponsorship letter confirming that they will cover your tuition fees. Further instructions will be provided once a sponsorship email is received.

International students should pay via Convera or via a credit card.  

Please ensure that you have read and reviewed the Payment Policy, which can be found hereIt is important to note that full payment of tuition is due prior to program start. 

If you have not received your tuition receipt via email, you can fill out this form to request an updated fee receipt from us. Scroll down to the question, “Do you still need assistance?” and choose “Yes” to complete the form.

Transfer Credits 

Students enrolled in a School of Continuing Studies (SCS) certificate program may apply for one transfer credit per certificate program by submitting the Transfer Credit Request Form prior to the start of your program. 

Medical Insurance 

Yes. It is mandatory for all international students to have health insurance coverage while studying within Canada. The insurance fee for international students in a CPE program is automatically added to your invoice. This cost is in addition to any regular tuition fees. For details on the coverage offered by our insurance provider, Guard.Me, please visit https://www.guard.me/yorkscs.
