The York University English Language Institute (YUELI) is leading a pan-university recruitment effort by hosting a familiarisation tour for visiting agents to the International Consultants for Education and Fairs (ICEF) workshop.

On May 10, 2016, 12 agents from 11 agencies representing 9 countries visited York University as part of their time in Toronto for the ICEF workshop. For the majority of the agents, this was their first experience of York and was an opportunity to visit the faculties and facilities the Keele campus has to offer.  The event began with presentations from senior management on the University, the English Language Institute, the School of Continuing Studies, Osgoode Hall Law School and the Schulich School of Business. Following the presentations, the agents toured campus with stops at the Life Sciences Building, the AVIVA Tennis Centre and the Schulich School of Business. The visit finished with an evening event in the Art Gallery of York University.

The agents represented a broad variety of international markets, including existing markets like India and China and emerging markets like Iran and Vietnam. This tour of York helped to facilitate connections and enhanced the English Language Institute’s international network for introducing York University to more students from around the world.

Part of the School of Continuing Studies, the York University English Language Institute is one of the few in Canada to offer a diverse pre-university pathway for students who are absolutely new to the English language to a level of fluency required for doctoral studies. Serving students from 50 countries, YUELI prepares its graduates to earn a higher GPA and graduation rate than other visa students. In 2015-16, 651 YUELI graduates accepted an offer of admission to York.

The agents were in Toronto for the ICEF North America Workshop. ICEF Workshops and FAM Tours have been the premier networking events in the international education industry, allowing educators to hold one-to-one business appointments with relevant, quality student recruitment agents.
