After finishing his MBA from Schulich School of Business, York University, he joined Microsoft Canada and has held multiple roles such as Technical Evangelist, National Startup Lead and currently is the Developer Engagement Lead for Cloud and Enterprise.

He has 12+ years of experience in the technology industry across software development, technical consulting, solution architecture and business development.

Gilberto Castillo is a highly seasoned IT professional with over twenty years of extensive experience, currently based in the Greater Toronto Area, Canada. His background encompasses diverse expertise in customer-facing roles, workflow automation, integration development, systems management, and data center automation. Throughout his career, Gilberto has worked with some of the largest financial, telecommunications, healthcare, and public-sector organizations in Canada, the USA, and Latin America.

Professional Experience
His career includes leadership roles in various high-profile tech companies, highlighting his expertise in delivering innovative technology solutions and his unwavering commitment to continuous professional development. With about twelve years dedicated to large-scale data center projects with Sun Microsystems, Computer Associates, and Hewlett Packard, Gilberto transitioned to about eight years of significant involvement in observability initiatives with Splunk, Datadog, and SignalFx. He has spent the last six years focusing on Cloud automation, security, and DevOps with HashiCorp and other leading entities.

Teaching Philosophy
Gilberto’s passion lies in systems automation, security integration, and, most importantly, empowering others through education and training in the latest cloud and infrastructure technologies. This dedication to sharing knowledge and fostering growth is a testament to his commitment to the IT field and his potential to contribute to developing a team or organization.

Senior Research Scientist at TELUS

Education:
Haleh has a Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from McMaster University, and she was also part of the sessional faculty in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department.

Professional Experience:
Haleh Shahzad is a senior research scientist at TELUS, Cybersecurity Analytics with 8+ years of experience in AI (deep learning, machine learning), software development, advanced analytics, and wireless networks. She is currently leading AI initiatives for cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions to tackle security challenges and enhance the security posture of both TELUS and its customers.

Teaching philosophy
Haleh believes in creating an interactive, student-centered environment where learners engage with DevOps concepts through practical labs and collaborative problem-solving. Her goal is to connect core principles with the next generation of DevOps tools and emerging technologies, such as LLMs, so students are prepared to adapt, innovate, and succeed in a rapidly evolving field.

Juan is Currently a full-time senior DevOps engineer at TELUS Mobility Inc, for the Voice and Services Automation team.

Education:
Juan Rodriguez graduated with a Bachelor of Telecom Engineering from Venezuela from Fermin Toro University in 2008, specializing in Project Management in Canada in 2013 at Centennial College in Toronto.

Professional Experience:
He has been in the telecommunications industry for the last 14 years holding positions in operations and development areas, from both the vendor and the telco side.

Teaching Philosophy:
Juan is passionate about innovation and team improvements, for this reason, he started learning about Agile transformations and Design Thinking and holds several of the most known certifications in the industry. Juan is also an active professional engineer licensed in Ontario (PEO) since 2017.

AVP for DevOps, Release and Tools at Aviva Canada.

Education:
Shane holds a Masters degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science, the realisation that engineering excellence in all aspects of software delivery drove great DevOps outcomes was a light bulb moment – both disciplines could converge into something new and groundbreaking.

Professional Experience:
He has over 20 years industry experience across development, technical lead and operations roles, with a focus on DevOps for the past 5 years. At Aviva Canada, Shane works with a centralised team of talented and experienced DevOps engineers, promoting consistent adoption, best practice and continuous improvement across a diverse technology estate. This is achieved through close collaboration with individual development teams and their respective DevOps engineers.
