The YUBridge program is an 8-month, 2-term online pathway to York University. Students accepted into the YUBridge program are conditionally admitted to one of the six faculties at York University: Health, Science, Liberal Arts, Lassonde School of Engineering and School of Arts, Media, Performance and Design. English language training is a weekly mix of 15 hours live instruction and 5 hours of additional online activities. Additionally, YUB students complete one 3-credit course in Term I and up to two 3-credit courses in Term II. They are also supported by an additional 2-hour per week live tutorial taught by teaching assistants selected specifically for their specialization.

Our 15-hour per week synchronous EAP and ESP classes are delivered through Zoom and taught by our highly professional and experienced YUELI instructors. EAP focuses on providing you with the language tools needed in all four skills: reading, listening, writing and speaking. The ESP is tailored specifically to cover the language components needed for your credit courses at York University.

The additional 5-hours per week of independent learning through our online, asynchronous university skill module is designed to focus exclusively on the skills and strategies needed to navigate the academic culture in a university setting. This includes self-study modules on notetaking, annotation, textual analysis, critical thinking, editing, writing structure as well as listening and reading strategies.

Materials

An e-mail account, internet and library access, textbooks and limited printing and photocopying services are included in the tuition fee. YUBridge students will be expected to purchase textbooks for each of their academic credit courses.

• 4 hours of blended English for Specific Purposes (ESP) per week focused on your field of study (2 hours in-class and 2 hours online)

Term 1 (8 months)

• Previous education: 80% GPA (or equivalent) from high school
• Language proficiency:
  -IELTS: 5.0 overall, with a minimum of 5.0 in Writing OR
  -DET (Duolingo English Test): 80 OR
  -Successful completion of Academic Program Level AP5 OR
  -Equivalent score on YUELI placement test

Term 2 (4 months)

• Previous education: 80% GPA (or equivalent) from high school
• Language proficiency:
  -IELTS: 6.0
  -DET (Duolingo English Test): 100 OR
  -Successful completion of Academic Program Level AP7 OR
  -Equivalent score on YUELI placement test

• Please note that effective January 4th, 2021 the YUBridge Program fee will increase to reflect the increase in Undergraduate credit tuition. Credit course tuition fees range between $3,230 and 3,442.62 per course. Please find a link to the York fees here.
• English Language Institute Application Fee: $100.00 (one-time only, non-refundable) for new students.
• York University Application Fee: $100.00 (one-time only, non-refundable) to submit an application for York University undergraduate studies.
• Tuition cost includes Tuition Fee ESL, York Credit Courses (6 credits).
• Health Insurance (Emergency Medical coverage) is available for an additional cost of $350.00.
• YUBridge students will be expected to purchase textbooks for each of their academic credit courses.
• Upon reaching IELTS 6.0 by the end of Semester One, Students may choose to do an extra three credits in Semester Two for the additional cost of $1,700.00.

Cancellation, Transfer and Refund Policies and Procedures

• Students and instructors are expected to maintain a professional relationship characterized by courtesy, collegiality and mutual respect and to refrain from actions that would be disruptive to such a relationship;
• It is the responsibility of the instructor to maintain an appropriate academic atmosphere in the classroom and the responsibility of the student to cooperate in that endeavour; and,
• The instructor is the best person to decide, in first instance, whether such an atmosphere is present in the class and may at their discretion, take steps that they feel are appropriate to resolve an issue or dispute.

In any case, where a student feels that this policy has been violated, they are urged to: notify the instructor of the course/program as soon as possible. Students may be asked to provide a detailed written description of their complaint to the instructor. The instructor may take measures they feel are appropriate to resolve the issue and/or may forward the complaint to the English Language Institute for review.
